Health Concerns

Regarding COVID:
For guidance on school exclusion related to COVID, please refer below or view the Falcon Safe Start Plan on the Huffman ISD website. Please reach out by phone or email to the clinic with any questions (There might be possible changes to the school exclusion policy during the COVID-19 pandemic).

  • Huffman ISD does not conduct contact tracing or identify close contacts. However, notifications will be sent out via email or text to parents of students who are in the homeroom class with an individual who tested positive.
  • Parents of students, who are close contacts of an individual with COVID-19, may opt to keep their child(ren) home during the recommended stay-at-home period. Students who are absent, are responsible for any make-up work and teachers will need to be contacted for this.
  • Parents who opt to send their children to school, in the two weeks following exposure, are encouraged to closely monitor their children for symptoms.
  • Parents of students who test positive, or are suspected of having COVID, cannot return to school until re-entry conditions have been met. Please be sure to notify your child’s school nurse.
        • Students who test positive are required to stay home for 10 days.
        • Students suspected of having COVID are required to stay home for 10 days, or may return with a negative test or medical clearance from a doctor.
  • Symptoms include, but not limited to: Fever 100.0 or higher, fatigue, headache, body aches or chills, cough, nasal congestion, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting.

Health Screenings:

Hearing and Vision screenings will be conducted on all students in Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades as required by Texas State Law. These students are also screened for Acanthosis Nigricans (indicates early endocrine problems).

All 5th grade girls will be screened for Scoliosis or other spinal problems as required by Texas State Law.

Food Allergies:
Please inform school nurse regarding any type of food allergy your student might have. A letter from child's physician stating what type of food restrictions they have and what alternative food that should be offered needs to be given to school nurse.
Activity Restrictions:
If your child has any serious injury or physical restrictions that require crutches, splints, orthopedic cast, special accommodations, an activity restriction form will need to be provided to the school nurse from your child's physician or therapist that states what the restrictions/limitations are and for how long. (Example: PE/No recess for 1-2 weeks)
